This paper explores the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into modern education and focuses on historical evaluations and challenges through the lens of “National Education Policy 2020” (NEP). Through a comprehensive literature review, the study examines the credibility of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) across different stages and its potential erosion in the digital era. Further, critically evaluate the NEP (2020) initiatives’ for promotion and integration of ‘Indian Knowledge Systems’ (IKS). The study highlights strategies for promoting IKS in higher education including curriculum integration, interdisciplinary centers, stakeholder engagement and resource allocation. Despite challenges like Western-Centric education paradigms and resource constraints, opportunities for cultural revitalization and sustainable development are identified. However, challenges such as lack of awareness, dominance of Western-Centric frameworks and resource constraints hinder effective implementation. Overcoming these challenges requires training, paradigm shifts in pedagogy and adequate resource allocation. Recommendations for curriculum redesign, teacher training and international collaboration are provided to facilitate the seamless integration of IKS into modern education systems, fostering cultural pride and inclusive learning environments.
