This work involves fabrication and characterization of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet system to evaluate its carbon-based material deposition capabilities under two conditions, with and without an external magnetic field. Using optical diagnostic tools, a one order increase in the value of electron density from ∼1014 to ∼1015 cm−3 was observed. Using ethanol as a precursor and O2 as a carrier, deposition of micrometer-sized spherical carbon structures on silicon wafers was conducted for both cases. A decrease in the size of the particles and an overall increase in the carbon concentration on the substrate were confirmed through scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis. This study aims to understand the effect of an external magnetic field on plasma formation and deposition mechanisms.
