District hospitals in Senegal are crucial for healthcare delivery, yet their systems' effectiveness and cost-effectiveness require rigorous evaluation. A meta-analysis approach was employed to synthesize data from multiple studies, employing statistical models and uncertainty statements where appropriate. The analysis focused on identifying key factors influencing the operational efficiency and cost outcomes of district hospitals. Findings suggest a significant variation in hospital costs per patient treated (15-40) with an average cost-effectiveness ratio indicating substantial room for improvement, particularly in diagnostic services and staff training programmes. The quasi-experimental design utilised in this study provided valuable insights into the operational efficiencies of district hospitals in Senegal, highlighting areas needing targeted interventions to enhance their cost-effectiveness. Investment in diagnostic infrastructure and continuous professional development for healthcare workers is recommended to improve hospital performance and patient outcomes.
