The fine traditional Chinese culture, especially Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, embodies profound psychological knowledge and principles, as well as a wealth of progressive concepts and methods worthy of reference. In the practice of psychological counseling, integrating Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism with modern psychological counseling theories to further explore counseling theories and methods more suitable for the Chinese people can not only effectively enhance clients’ psychological resilience, resolve psychological issues and promote mental health, but also facilitate the localization of psychological counseling. This paper focuses on three core aspects: the psychological essence embedded in traditional Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, the current application status of these cultures in psychological counseling, and their application prospects in localized psychological counseling. It thus makes a beneficial exploration for summarizing and refining localized counseling techniques and methods tailored to the psychological characteristics of the Chinese population.
