Abstract This study explores the application of AIGC technology, using ChatGPT-4 and MidJourney 6.0 as primary tools to design and generate visual imagery based on the Chinese mythological anthology, the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shan Hai Jing). Through a systematic experimental design, this study established a bidirectional human–AI collaborative mechanism between ChatGPT and MidJourney, forming a standardized generative workflow. The results demonstrate that ChatGPT-4 and MidJourney 6.0 can produce highly realistic and artistically expressive visual images, faithfully reproducing the iconic elements of the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Moreover, through quality control measures such as prompt weight adjustment, parameter optimization, and multiple iterations, this study transformed image quality management from post-correction to process optimization. However, limitations persist in processing complex mythological texts and intricate details, requiring designer intervention to enhance accuracy. This study highlights the potential of AIGC in mythological art creation and offers new avenues for the modern expression of traditional culture.
