Public history and memory-making are crucial in post-conflict societies as they shape collective identities and social cohesion. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with focus groups and quantitative surveys to gather data from diverse community members. The survey revealed that 75% of participants engaged in local history projects, indicating the widespread involvement in memory-making activities. Public history initiatives play a significant role in fostering communal healing and identity construction among South African communities post-conflict. Communities should be supported to continue public history projects as they contribute positively to societal integration and reconciliation efforts.
