This short note offers a definition of poetry developed from the author's dual background as a former composer and current independent scholar and international poet. It proposes that poetry is not merely a play of language, but perception within time and space—another kind of graceful, repeated listening. "Poetry is perception within time and space—another kind of graceful, soulful listening." This core proposition serves as the cornerstone of my poetics. It emphasizes the integration of temporal experience and spatial awareness, proposing poetry not as mere expression, but as a profound, attentive engagement with the universe. Drawing from my dual background as a former composer and current independent scholar, this definition bridges the sonic and the textual. It posits that poetry is not only heard in the cadence of language but also felt in the silent spaces between words—an act of deep listening that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries.
