Abstract This paper reveals the growth differences and convergence of total factor productivity of carbon emissions (CTFP) of listed companies in China from 2012 to 2022. Research has found that the average annual growth rate of CTFP of listed companies during the investigation period was 5.73%, and technological progress is the main driving factor for the increase in CTFP. Ultra-high density is the main source of CTFP growth differences. During the investigation period, CTFP and its decomposition index showed overall convergence of α and β. There are differences in the convergence speed of β, with central western northeast eastern regions, and medium tech industries high tech industries low tech industries.
