Hamstring autografts with quadrupled diameters greater than 8 mm appear to match the revision rates of bone-patellar tendon-bone and distal quadriceps tendon autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Younger age, male sex, higher body mass index, and the use of allograft tissue remain significant risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament revision in this matched cohort. Further, clinical and basic science research is needed to clarify why some comparative studies show similar revision rates between hamstring and bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts, while others do not.
