In recent years, the use of algae biomass has been attracting attention in various fields, including biofuel development. In the efficient cultivation of sea algae, it is important to consider how carbon dioxide and nutrients in seawater are effectively absorbed by the sea algae. Based on our previous research results, we have clarified that the better the flow around the sea algae is laminar and the faster the flow velocity, the better the growth of the sea algae. However, we have also confirmed that as algae grow, their growth rate decreases. We speculate that this may be due to the fact that as algae grow and branch out, the inner parts of the algae become denser, making it difficult for seawater flow to penetrate. In this experiment, we aimed to clarify the basic flow characteristics around algae by creating a simulated algae model and investigating the fundamental flow properties around it.
