The presentation draws on empirical research in Slovenia conducted within the project Mapping Media for Future Democracies (MeDeMAP) - 12 interviews with journalists and editors, four citizen focus groups, and a Citizens’ Parliament - and examines how journalists navigate political and economic pressures, how citizens perceive journalistic independence and trust, and what they demand from the media system. It was delivered at the 15th Central and Eastern European Communication and Media Conference at the University of Zadar on 7 June 2025.
