SUMMARY Age, breed, sex, and anatomic site of involvement of dogs affected with intervertebral disk disease ( idd ) were determined and evaluated in terms of a sample of nonaffected dogs drawn from clinic population. Estimates of relative risk indicated that among the 4 breeds most frequently represented in this series of cases, risk of occurrence was greatest in the Dachshund and less so in the Pekingese, Beagle, and Cocker Spaniel, in that order. Mean age at admission differed significantly between some breeds and between males and females within some breeds. Among Dachshund females, mean age of cases with cervical disk involvement differed from mean age of cases with thoracolumbar disk involvement.
