A series of 1-(halobenzyl)isatins was obtained in high yields by the alkylation of isatin sodium salt with various halogenated benzyl halides. The effect of the new compounds on hemostasis system was shown to depend on the nature of the halogen in the benzyl moiety. The 2-chlorobenzyl derivative showed the highest antiplatelet and anticoagulant activities; the introduction of an additional chlorine atom at position 4 or fluorine atoms at positions 4 and 6 slightly reduced the antithrombotic activity.
