After the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the consolidation of the European Union (EU), Serbia found itself facing a scenario in which its foreign policy must revolve around international cooperation and strategic alliances with influential actors in the international system, particularly in the Balkans region. In this regard, the main objective of the present research is to identify the factors of foreign policy that has influenced Serbia's accession process to the EU during the period from 2009 to 2020.To achieve this, a qualitative methodology with a historical and case study approach is employed, framed within the theory of complex interdependence developed by Nye and Keohane. The findings point out that Serbia's recognition of Kosovo as a sovereign state, coupled with pending reforms, stand as the main obstacles on the path towards accession to this integration body.
