A second phase of archaeological works was carried out at Inverness Castle, Inverness, during groundbreaking works associated with installation of services around the perimeter of the site. The fieldwork uncovered the remains of stone walling that formed part of the 19th century prison, lime mortar and stone walls believed to form part of the 18th century Fort George, and fragments of medieval deposits, part of a possible ditch, and a wall and posthole from a possible boundary structure believed to relate to the earlier medieval castles on the site. A moderate assemblage of 19th century or later artefact material comprising ceramics, glass, ferrous and other metal objects, slate and other building material, was recovered as well as a small assemblage of medieval ceramic and animal bone.
