A comparative analysis of sequenced, complete assembled genomes of ten strains of Bifidobacterium adolescentis from the collection of the Vavilov Institute of General Genetics was performed. The strains were isolated from the gut microbiota of healthy residents of the Central region of Russia. The analysis of the genomes included the identification of genomic diversity in the strains for the presence of unique genes and genes involved in the metabolism of various compounds with immunomodulatory, neuromodulatory, protective and adaptive functions on the basis of the developed catalog of functional genes, as well as comparison with the genomes of В. adolescentis strains from the NCBI. The presence of the strains under study was revealed in 36 metagenomes of patients with depression and 38 metagenomes of healthy people from the Russian population. As a result, three strains В. adolescentis 150, В. adolescentis 48, and В. adolescentis Km 4 in terms of the content of significant functional genes and the ability to actively produce gamma aminobutyric acid were selected.
