Individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a high prevalence of cognitive impairment, ranging from mild cognitive impairment to dementia.1 Cognitive impairment in aging and other causes of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is generally associated with low cerebral blood flow (CBF).2 Interestingly, CBF is high in individuals with CKD.2 This raises an important question about whether CBF has the same association with cognition in patients with CKD as it does in aging and AD.
