Every natural resource in our environment plays a key role in the sustenance of human life. Water for instance, is necessary for both consumption and other vital uses. As a result, efforts geared towards harnessing and sustaining its regular availability for various uses should be of interest to architects and other professionals in the building industry. More so as it pertains to its use in building construction. The aim of this paper is to understand the relationship between the built environment and water conservation, and to examine the role of architects as well as other professionals in the building industry. This is in other to promote conscious efforts in clean water availability, conservation, waste reduction and management, towards promoting and achieving clean water and sanitation by 2030. The research method employed was a review of existing literature on related topics on water conservation and the built environment. This showed that water conservation in the built environment can be achieved through efficient technologies like dry construction techniques, rain water harvesting, grey-water recycle/reuse, cooling towers and water conservation index for green buildings.
