This article explores the historical and contemporary significance of the hammered dulcimer (Latvian: cimboles) in Latvia, with a particular focus on the Latgale region. It documents the instrument's construction, ensemble traditions, and recording history, highlighted by the work of Jāzeps Orniks and Juoņs Jakoveļs. The study also examines the current revival of the instrument through the efforts of the "Skaņumāja" association and formal music education at the Jānis Ivanovs Rēzekne Music Secondary School. By preserving biographical accounts and technical details, the paper contributes to the broader understanding of Baltic folk organology and the ongoing efforts to sustain this unique musical legacy.
