This work proposes an observational clinical model concerning the so-called descending cervical syndrome, understood as a postural-functional pattern in which a dysfunction of the cervico-cephalic axis may produce downstream adaptations involving the shoulders, trunk and pelvis, with possible consequences on body orientation and motor precision. The proposal is based on observations from clinical practice in both non-athletic and athletic subjects. In non-athletic subjects, the condition may manifest as errors in the perception of one’s body trajectory, including a tendency to collide with lateral or overhead obstacles. In athletes, it may present as a loss of precision in fine technical gestures, where deviations of only a few degrees may compromise performance. The model distinguishes descending cervical syndrome from ascending syndromes on the basis of the prevailing direction of compensation and the relationship between scapular and pelvic asymmetry. The role of the anterolateral cervical musculature, particularly the scalenes, is also discussed, together with manual pompage as a possible intervention for modulating cervical muscle tone. This work does not represent a controlled clinical study, but an observational proposal derived from clinical practice. The model described has descriptive and interpretative purposes and does not constitute definitive statistical validation.
