Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by AC archaeology during groundworks associated with a residential development forming Phase 2, Stowford Mill, Harford Road, Ivybridge, Devon. Stowford Mill is located on the north side of Ivybridge and between the River Erme, which flows to the west and a mill leat to the east. Stowford Paper Mills is a Grade-II listed building of 18th century origin with later additions and modifications (National Heritage List for England no. 1107427). The monitored Phase 2 area is situated to the north of the historic mill building complex positioned on flat ground that was previously occupied by warehouses constructed during the 1960s. The results from the archaeological monitoring and recording were negative, with no evidence exposed of activity prior to the construction of the 1960s concrete and brick warehouse. There were no finds recovered from the site. The results therefore indicated that the area was terraced preceding the construction of the warehouse buildings. This report represents the archive for the project.
