The historic building recording took place the 18th of April 2024 to an ALGAO: Scotland's Historic Building Recording Guidance (2013) Enhanced building record. A comprehensive digital photographic record including scales of the frontage, internal rooms, and fixtures and fittings of interest was made in the former bar and Playhouse foyer. Printed plans and elevation, where available, were annotated on site with phasing information and observations. The pay box was drawn to scale, both in plan and elevation, prior to being dismantled. They were hand drawn on archive permanent draughting film. These were digitised in CorelDraw X8 draughting software to complete the drawing set. Addyman Archaeology undertook a programme of Historic Building Record and Monitoring at the Playhouse Theatre and Habana Bar, Nos. 18-22 Greenside Place, Edinburgh. The Playhouse Theatre is a Category A Listed Building (ref. LB30029) near the top of Leith Walk, and within the Edinburgh World Heritage site. The works revealed the original fabric of the Playhouse, designed by John Fairweather, including a fireplace. One of the original pay boxes was also fully recorded inside and out, prior to its being dismantled.
