Forty-nine adults and 35 children with bronchial asthma reported 3,647 attacks during 27,440 person-days. Asthmatic attack rate in adults varied with level of sulfation (lead candle method) in their residence. Attack rates on days with highest and lowest sulfation were significantly different (more so with delay-effect). Wind velocity showed an inverse relationship with asthma. More attacks were found in persons with 1-sec timed VC less than 50% of total VC than in those with greater than 75%. Children do not show effects of sulfation, perhaps because of more extraneous factors (e.g., emotional) or because it may be a different disease in children.
