ABSTRACT Herbal medicine, encompassing the use of various plant parts such as leaves, stems, flowers, roots, and seeds, has long been employed to prevent and treat diseases and continues to gain global recognition. Among the diverse bioactive compounds present in plants, phytic acid was traditionally viewed as an antinutrient due to its mineral‐binding properties that reduce mineral absorption. However, emerging research has uncovered its significant health benefits, including anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant, anti‐cancer, and anti‐diabetic activities. This review focuses on the therapeutic potential of phytic acid, particularly its role in managing obesity and type 2 diabetes. Given that obesity, insulin resistance, and pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction are central to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and that key signaling pathways such as AMPK and PI3K/AKT are critical in regulating insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, understanding the modulatory effects of phytic acid on these pathways could pave the way for novel treatment strategies. While current findings are promising, further in‐depth studies are necessary to clarify the molecular mechanisms of phytic acid and confirm its clinical utility in metabolic disease management.
