This slide deck contains concise information on open access policies that apply to researchers of Leiden University, as well as on the UL's Strategic Publication Framework. It then presents practical steps for strategising where and how make journal articles openly available, and ends with exercises on determining journals' OA policies, publishing agreements and provisos, versioning, licensing, and the institutional repository. A version of this slide deck was used in a workshop at Leiden University's FGGA-FSW Research Day (20 May 2026, The Hague). Note that the live presented version contained some extra slides that have not been reproduced here. This slide deck, and the workshop format it supported, has been developed by Leiden University Libraries - Centre for Digital Scholarship, to help scholars navigate open access publishing routes for journal articles.
