Stochastic models are investigated for collections of populations which are distributed spatially, either at discrete points on a line or at the nodes of a square or cubic lattice, and which are subject to birth, death, and migration to or from neighbouring populations. Explicit expressions are given for the stochastic means. A general indication is provided for the calculation of variances and covariances, with explicit values for some special cases.
