The article considers structural policy as a modern and effective tool for the development of regions in a market economy. The article analyzes the theoretical aspects, goals, objectives, tools of structural policy, as well as its role in reducing regional imbalances, increasing the competitiveness of the regional economy and improving the quality of life of the population. The fundamental principles of regional structural policy are described in detail, the implementation of which in practice ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of activities carried out by state authorities, which makes it possible to achieve sustainable and balanced development of territories. Special attention is paid to strategic planning as a key instrument of regional structural policy. It is concluded that strategic planning plays an important role in the formation and implementation of structural economic transformations, as it allows regions to systematically approach the solution of socio-economic problems, maximize the use of available resources and create conditions for sustainable development of the region in the long term. In conclusion, it was noted that in order to increase the effectiveness of structural policy in Russia, it is necessary to increase financing, improve the mechanisms for allocating and using funds, strengthen coordination between various authorities, and develop clear criteria for assessing regional development.
