Abstract René Dagron (1819–1900) long was identified in the photographic press as the originator of microphotography. However, he was preceded by six years by the experiments and public sale of such microphotos by an Englishman, John Benjamin Dancer (1812–1887). The establishment of the relationship of these two ingenious men was first given by the author 42 years ago. This paper is an attempt to fill in many of the facts about the Dagron side of the story uncovered over the past third of a century.1
