AbstractThis essay reviews Patel’s (2012) case for the hope that lies in American religious pluralism. Patel draws upon various faith traditions, multiple social identities, and several current events to construct a convincing argument for pluralism as a responsibility rather than a birthright. Positioning “America,” the United States, as the main character, Patel’s work is useful for students, scholars, and practitioners who strive to discuss and demonstrate characteristics of thoughtful interfaith leadership and cooperation.
