Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Jones Homes (Yorkshire) to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land at Oxcroft Lane, Bolsover, Derbyshire as part of pre-determination works in support of planning application (15/00076/OUT). The evaluation comprised the excavation of 20 trial trenches targeted to assess the presence/absence of archaeology within the Proposed Development Area. A total of ten trenches (Trenches 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, and 21) demonstrated archaeological deposits, confirming the results of the geophysical survey representing pits, ditches and post holes related to no fewer than three phases of occupation largely spanning late prehistory and the mid 2nd- mid 3rd century AD. The other excavated trenches (Trenches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 18) did not yield archaeological deposit.
