Archaeological watching brief undertaken on investigative trenches by remediation specialists. The purpose of the work was to determine the character, date, location and preservation of any archaeological remains on site with the view to understanding the site and its significance. The main aims of the evaluation were to identify the possible traces of palaeochannels indicated by a geoarchaeological test pitting, and to ascertain the presence of Roman features; in particular burials. No archaeological features were recorded. Trenches 2,3 and 4 revealed layers of material linked to the development of the rail yard, the development of which appears to have truncated the natural to various degrees. However, traces of buried subsoil located in Trench 1, with inclusions of CBM and charcoal appear to indicate Roman activity within the site.
