Quality management and accredition systems have been applied to educational contexts for different purposes in several forms in the past 15 years. In Turkey, as in the rest of the world, quality management systems have been regarded as the resolutions for key questions in the higher education system. However, so far implementations resulted in outcomes considered as the indication of more complex key questions. This overview presents the current situation of Turkish higher education, and discusses quality management and accreditation systems implemented in universities with a focus on the needs of reformative actions and improvement. Outstanding examples from different Turkish universities are presented. Finally, after a general conclusion, a framework is recommended for the adaptation of quality systems in Turkish universities.
