A series of patients with late reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament is presented. Seven patients were treated by the Jones method of reconstruction, but, because of certain difficulties with this procedure, a modified technique was developed. Six patients were treated by this modified procedure, and their results two or more years after surgery were reviewed. The number of patients in each group is small, a reflection of the relative infrequency with which anterior cruciate reconstruction is indicated. However, the modified procedure described is believed to result in greater security of anterior-cruciate reconstruction and greater knee flexion following surgery in the occasional patients who have genuine disability and in whom surgical reconstruction of this ligament is indicated.
