Abstract From 1964 to its recent folding, owing to governmental and bureaucratic pressures, the Yugoslav journal Praxis has worked to circulate knowledge of “Eastern” philosophy in the capitalist countries and of “Western” philosophy (at least such as is appropriate and ready for dialogue) in the socialist countries. In pursuit of this dual objective, the editors of Praxis established a summer school (also now defunct) on the South Dalmation island of Korčula, which met for the fifth time on August 14-24, 1968 and, in honor of Karl Marx's 150th birthday, was entitled “Marx and the Revolution.” On that island, I had the pleasure of spending twelve days with Ernst Bloch, attending the convention and conversing with him. The following discussions were taped on that occasion.
