Help Wanted—Accountant: What the Classifieds Say about Employers' Expectations

Abstract In this study, information contained in classified ads was used to gain insight into the qualities employers demand most in accountants today and how the qualities differ from those sought 10 and 20 years ago. The results of the analysis indicate that employers seeking accountants today are placing more emphasis on computer literacy, professional certification, and good communication skills than they did 20 years ago. Results also show that employers continue to request accounting graduates to fill their accounting positions.
