I find Confrey's (1986) contribution to be engaging as a work of fiction and provocative as an allegorical statement of a point of view, but I believe that it leaves much to be desired as a response to my own contribution (Brophy, 1986). I have three basic complaints: (a) unbalanced content coverage, (b) distortions in the treatment of the content that is covered, and (c) the lack of evidence of readiness to come to grips with the realities of classroom teaching.
