selfing population derived from V. amurensis, individuals homozygous for the InDel also showed significantly elevated UFAs and superior cold tolerance. This Indel is widely present in American wild Vitis species, but is absent in partial East Asia wild Vitis species and European species, correlating with a decline in cold hardiness. Ultimately, our findings provide a precise genetic target for manipulating lipid desaturation to engineer climate-resilient grapevines.
