For a sample of 116 first-grade pupils, scores from a reading attitude inventory were correlated .18 (p < .05) with the Reading composite scores on the Metropolitan Achievement Test. Coefficients of .48 (p < .01) and of .32 (p < .01) were also found for females and blacks, respectively. The low degree of correspondences, however, limited the practical significance of the results.
