Whereas rating scales represent an efficient and cost-effective way of obtaining data on child behavior, there are numerous problems and unresolved issues pertaining to their use. This article is focused upon a few selected considerations regarding the instruments themselves and the informants who provide the ratings. Recommendations for future work on the development and refinement of child behavior rating scales are also made.
