Cross sections were computed for different types of multiple imaging events involving a single elliptical lens, using a model two-dimensional Newtonian potential parameterized by its hardness, core radius, and ellipticity. It was found that numerical evaluation can give accurate calculations for image magnifications in the range of M between the values of 0.005 and 300 (where M is the image magnification relative to free propagation in the absence of the lens). The physical parameters that describe the family of potentials were related to the velocity dispersion and core radius of an underlying isotropic particle distribution, using, for illustration purposes, galaxylike and clusterlike parameters for the potential wells.
