Today, the demand for pharmaceuticals derived from herbal raw materials is steadily increasing. Currently, 40–45% of manufactured medicines are prepared from medicinal plant materials. Medicinal plants contain carbohydrates, organic acids, polysaccharides, starch, proteins, fats and fatty acids, essential oils, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, bitter substances, phytoncides, microelements, vitamins, mineral salts, and other compounds. Due to the combined synergistic effect of these substances, plants possess therapeutic and healing properties.
