Create a dedicated education unit (DEU) orientation to improve the transition of new graduate nurses. Inconsistent transition to practice has led to decreased nurse retention and confidence. A sample of nurses in the DEU orientation completed a survey pre- and post-participation to compare perceived competence and confidence, as well as retention and vacancy rates. The survey, retention, and vacancy all showed improvement. The DEU increased nurse confidence, improving retention rates and decreasing the DEU vacancy rate.
