This paper describes the application of vision systems to driver monitoring and occupancy detection in automobiles. The first section describes the observation and analysis of a driver monitoring system which tracks a driver's eyelid movement. It gives an overview of the system, including its specifications, prototype characteristics algorithm, and evaluation results. The second section describes an occupant sensing system and with an accompanying smart airbag function. An overview of the system and its characteristics is given.
