Sympathetic blockade does not appear to improve collateral flow or prevent infarction in the early hours following experimental coronary artery ligation.
Collateral flow rates were measured for 6 hr after experimental myocardial infarction. Variations in the depth of anaesthesia, and procedures aimed at blocking the sympathetic system did not prevent infarction, and did not increase collateral flow.
