Abstract After its inauguration in 1976 for the United States’ Bicentennial, the Chamizal Siglo de Oro Festival became well established with international renown through the 1980s as a point of convergence for all interested in our classical theatre. Personal memories pay tribute to academics and theatre practicioners who took part as commentators and /or judges, besides recalling productions by some directors and their companies during those years. My attendance at the Festival through the 80’s, as well as the concomitant symposium at the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), and in particular my function as commentator after each Festival production in 1983, contribute a special perspective on the history of Chamizal Siglo de Oro Festival
