Abstract Many accounting faculty compile anthologies of materials from journals, textbooks and other sources for classroom use. A recent exploratory study indicates that these faculty do not understand, and often violate, the Copyright Act. These violations place faculty members, institutions and bookstores at risk for legal action. The purpose of this paper is to inform faculty about the copyright law and to provide some guidance on ways to minimize the risk of violating the law.
