This research examines how charitable foundations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can be established and run effectively in India. The importance of NGOs for the development of the society in social, educational, health and environmental fields is huge. This research provides information on the legal process required to establish an NGO, registration of the organization, financial management and implementation of social work. An organization can be registered as a Trust, Society or Section 8 Company to set up an NGO in India. Trusts are registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, societies are registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and section 8 companies are registered under the Companies Act, 2013. Also the organization needs to get PAN, bank account, 12A and 80G registration for financial transactions. The main objective of this research is to study in depth the process of NGO formation, fundraising, management and role of NGOs in community development. NGOs can bring about significant social change in areas such as education, health, women empowerment and rural development.
