Plasma aldosterone concentration was measured in 135 infants and children ranging in age from 2 weeks to 16 yr, using a sensitive radioimmunoassay method. The mean concentration of aldosterone during the first year of life was found to be significantly higher than at any other age (p < 0.005). This increase was found to be mainly due to an increased rate of secretion in relation to size.
