Thermal comfort and air quality are crucial variables affecting the health, well-being, ability to concentrate, and performance of occupants in educational buildings. Many developing areas have their educational buildings experiencing poor indoor environmental quality as a result of inadequate attention given to building orientation, which causes heat gain in buildings, poor ventilation, and reliance on mechanical ventilation system. While there have been numerous studies on sustainable building designs and building thermal performance, not much literature is available on the effect of building orientation on indoor thermal and air quality. This study will examine the effect of building orientation on indoor environmental quality in selected educational buildings at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Nigeria. A quantitative research method will be adopted where data will be collected using a structured questionnaire from occupants of buildings. The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to find out how occupant perceive their thermal comfort level, airflow rate, and air quality inside their buildings. From this research, the findings are going to suggest sustainable building orientation practices that improve indoor environmental quality and reduce energy use.
