He was the first fully trained electrophysiologist in British Columbia, establishing the arrhythmia program after completing a fellowship at Duke University. He served as Head of the UBC Division of Cardiology from 1995 to 2002 and as President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society from 2008 to 2010.
